Abstract: Study on mutation of RD6 and Sanpatong1 at Sakon Nakhon Rice Research Center, Ubon Ratchathani Rice Research Center and Phrae Rice Research Center in wet season 2004-2005. The studies were two experiments,1) pure seed selection and 2) mutation. At first testing RD6 variety changes from glutinous type to non-glutionous one when brown rice seed were sown and covered inflorescences. It was found that non-glutinous occurred on the panicles about 0.12-1.5 percent in 2004 but in 2005 it's not found non-glutinous in panicles of RD6. However non-glutinous seed occurred decreasing in the panicles of RD6 which were not covered inflorescences. The second testing, breeder seed of RD6 which covered inflorescences, it was not found non-glutinous type at Sakon Nakhon RRC and Ubon Ratchathani RRC but non-glutinous occurred at Phare RRC 1 percent and it was not found non-glutinous in Sanpatong1. RD6 which were not covered inflorescences, non-glutinous seed occurred 0.56-4.0 percent in 2004 and 1.2 percent at Phare RRC in 2005. Non-glutinous seeds were found in the panicles of Sanpatong1 1.0 and 1.5 percent in 2004 and 2005 respectively. Non-glutinous from RD6 and Sanpatong1 were planted in pots, in 2004 the non-glutinous panicles ocured 22.50-37.27 percent. and 35.50 percent. In 2005 the non-glutinous panicles occurred 39.81-76.36 percent and 72.0 percent respectively. It could be concluded that RD6 and Sanpatong1 change from glutinous to non-glutinous type might occur by spontaneous mutation and natural crossing. This is a problem in the seed multiplication program so it is necessary to selection for purity of the glutinous seeds.
