Abstract: SRI practices have been verified in Chachoengsao Rice Research Center and in a farmer's field. The SRI practices were compared with those of the conventional rice production system using split plot design with 3 replicates. The main plot was method of water management (continuous soil submergence, and saturated soil). The subplot was variety (Pisanulok 2 or PSL2, Pathumthani 1 or PTT1and Khao Dawk Mali 105 or KDML105), and the sub-sub plot was seedling age and number of seedlings per hill (12 days old seedling, 1 seedling per hill-SRI practice: 25 days old seedling, 3 seedlings per hill-conventional practice). Grain yield obtained from the continuously submerged soil was significantly higher than the yield under saturated soil conditions. PTT1 had significantly higher yield (952 kg/rai) than PSL2 and KDML105. Young seedlings transplanted at one seedling per hill gave higher yield (850 kg/rai) than the old seedlings transplanted at 3 seedlings per hill (764 kg/rai). KDML had significantly higher yield (702 kg/rai) when grown using SRI practices than in the conventional method.
