Abstract

Rice production in irrigated area always faces problems of disease and insect damages due to mono-cropping in large area and unlimited production inputs. The promising line, PTL88114-10-1-1-17, has been developed through conventional breeding by Rice Research Centers located in the South, since 1988. IRRI female parent (IR46) and a male parent from Thai (RD7) had been cross pollinated at Phatthalung Rice Research Center. This promising line is photoperiod insensitive non-glutinous rice with erect and strong culms, erect flag leaf, compact panicle with well exertion. Its panicle is intermediate long. 131 filled grains per panicle of 90 percent seed setting. In the experiment station, it yields 502 kg/rai when transplanted and showed average yield of 583 kg/rai when broadcasted in the farmer's field yield trails. Its brown rice grain size was 7.89*2.27*1.88 mm. with white color, medium chalkiness, 21.6 percent amylose content. Its cooking guality was intermediate gel temperature, soft gel type, normally elongated cooked grain. Its good advantages were resistant to white back planthopper, and moderately resistant to leaf blast and bacterial leaf blight, but susceptible to brown planthopper. It should be recommended for irrigated area of the south region.
