| Abstract: | Upland rice area in Upper North is about 1,000,000 Rais, it's 39percent of all Upper North rice cultivated area. In Maehongson province, upland rice area is 51 percent of all Maehongson province rice cultivated area. Most of them are in the mountainous area. The farmers are ethnic groups who grow rice for self-sufficient comsumption. Upland rice yields vary from 200 to 300 kilograms per Rai. The amount and distribution of rainfall caused low yield, low soil fertilization, land erosion, weeds, diseases, insect pests damaged and low yielding landrace variety utilization was also a cause of low average yield. New varieties developed in highland rice research and development project is a way to solve the problems which was easy and fastly technology to be accepted by farmers. SPT92029-PMP-3-10-1 is the promising line which has been bred between KhaoLeuang and CT6196-33-11-1-3-AP at Chiangmai Rice Research Center in 1992. Pedigree selection, 2-rows observation, 4-rows observation and intra-station yield trial had been conducted at Maehongson Rice Research Center during 1993-2003 and 2006-2007. It's a weakly photoperiod sensitive, non glutinous upland rice. Its maturity day is about middle October. Its has erect and strong culm, 157 centimeter high, green leaf colour, compact panicel with well exsertion and moderately resistant to rice blast. The average yield is about 380 kilograms per Rai which is 21 percent and 32 percent higher than that of standard check varieties including Jow Khao and Jow Leesaw. It has slender shape grain, straw hull colour, 38.37 grams of 1,000 grain weight. Its brown rice color is white, less chalkiness and low amylose. Its cooking quality are soft rice and aroma. |
