Abstract

Rice cultivars popular grown by farmers in Northeastern region but produced considerably low yield, susceptible to diseases and insects. Thus the breeder in this region attempted to develop high yield potential rice lines with resistant to diseases and insects for irrigated area of Northeast region. The experiment was carried out during 1998-2008 at International Rice Research Institute, Ubon Ratchathani Rice Research Center, Surin Rice Research Center, Nakhon Ratchasima Rice Research Center, Khon Kaen Rice Research Center, Chum Phae Rice Research Center, Sakon Nakhon Rice Research Center, Udon Thani Rice Research Center, Nong Khai Rice Research Center, and farmers fields in 6 provinces of Northeast Thailand. IR75003-UBN-111-10-4-5 was developed from three way cross between IR69502-SRN-3-UBN-1-B-3-1/IR57514-PMI-8-1-1-SRN-1-1 as female parent and IR70172-34-SRN-2-1-1-1 as male parent. IR75003-UBN-111-10-4-5 is photoperiod insensitive non-glutinous rice. Average yield grown in Rice Research Center by transplanting is 736 kg/rai. While average yield in farmers field is 577 kg/rai. Maturity 133 days. Plant height is 116 cm. with 9 panicles/hill, 142 filled grains/panicle, 28.9 g per 1,000 grain weight, grain dormancy is 4 weeks, the paddy color is light yellow, long and slender grain shape, seed length is 7.97 mm. 27.6 percent amylose content, intermediate gelatinization temperature, cooked rice is not soft, non-aromatic rice, resistant to blast, susceptible to brown planthopper as Chainat 1, but produced higher grain yield than Chainat 1 rice variety.
