| Abstract: | Rice Production Potential Zoning of Rayong province is a sub-project of Rice Production Potential Zoning of Thailand. The project objective is to create database of rice production area and appropriate input technology for rice production. This research had been conducted from 2004-2006. There are four steps to run the research including 1) data collection, 2) data analysis, 3) testing of selected technology, and 4) rice production potential zoning map creation. Rayong rice production area is 37,200 rais, located in three district, Mueang, Bankai and Klaeng district. Average rice yield is 454 kg/rai. Farmers grow both sensitive and non-sensitive rice variety. Transplanting method is more preferable than pre-germinated seed broadcasting. Chemical fertilizer is major nutrient input (84 percent). Irrigation rice production area is 47 percent and the rest is rain-fed rice area. Significant rice pest is weed. Ninety-three soil samples from farmer field were sampled and analyzed. The research found that, the average soil pH is 4.58, while soil organic matter is only 1.30 percent. Average available P is 22.61 ppm. and extractable K is 55.51 ppm. These indicated that, Rayong paddy soil is low fertility. Fertilizer application technology with appropriate management was applied to increase rice potential yield. The research found that, rice yield could be increased to 750 kg/rai in the area of 13,635 rais. The area of 14,120 rais could give average yield of 611 kg/rai under appropriate technology. While low production potential area of 8,226 rais could give average yield only 478 kg/rai. The research concludes that, the amount of 8,184 tons of rough rice could be increased by applying appropriate technology. That increasing of rice production could increase the value of 49 million baht (at the price of 6,000 baht/ton). |
