Abstract

Experiments objective to rice blast forecasting consequently done since 2001-2003 in Pathumthani. An empirical of rice blast severity model derived. The model based on weather index called Blast Unit of Severity (BUS) followed Kim et al (1987). In 2006, experiments using the same weather indexing (BUS) were done. Data collecting (weather data and rice blast severity data) determined as a network of rice research centers located in hotspots of rice blast epidemics in Northern, North-eastern and Southern area of Thailand. Results in 2006 found that eventually occurrence of rice blast preferable weather indexing (BUS) in heading and flowering stages effected to neck blast occurrence in most of rice research center involved in the project. Same network of experiments were continued in 2007 and result confirmed more possibility using BUS to forecast blast severity, especially neck blast. In 2007 found that most of critical BUS values occurred during seedling and tillering stages. There was no preferable of weather condition to rice blast (no BUS value) in the most critical stages heading and flowering consecutively to less severity of neck blast and less impact on rice yield.
