Abstract: Undulating area of Northeast Thailand occupied 1,600 square kilometers in 5 districts of 2 provinces, i.e., Mueang Khon Kaen , Banphai and Banhad (in Khon Kaen province), and Kudrung and Kosumpisai (in Mahasarakam province). In this area, upland rice was grown in a two-year crop cycle cropping system with sugarcane and cassava as main crop. Local upland rice variety, Daw Sahyan (local variety) and Sakon Nakhon (SKN) were selected as popular varieties for this region. The upland rice yield trial was conducted in the farmer's field in 2008 wet season. Eight local upland rice varieties and 4 standard checks were tested in RCB with 4 replications. Average yield of the trial was 518 kilograms per rai (P=0.001). The test variety, Sew Gliang no. 2 (CPAC06013) produced the highest yield (609 kilograms per rai) and Sew Gliang no. 4 (CPAC06036) produced the lowest yield (470 kilograms per rai) while the four standard checks HY71, SKN, Sew Gliang and SMJ produced the average yield of 559, 545, 531 and 508 kilogram per rai, respectively.
