| Abstract: | Farm survey was conducted in 2006 cropping season, using the rice soil suitability map developed by the Land Development Department (LDD) to randomize the target farms. Fifty two farms throughout the province were sampled and surveyed for baseline data collection. In addition, an average rice yield of 346 kg/rai obtained from 104 samples with two crop-cut samplings in each sample. 104 soil samples from farmer filed were analyzed and found that Trang paddy soil had low available P and extractable K with an average soil pH of 4.93, 2.35 percent of soil organic matter, with 7.65 ppm of average available P and 29.93 ppm of extractable K. Five farmer field trials throughout the province were conducted, aiming to develop an appropriate fertilizer application to improve rice grain yield in 2006 and 2008 cropping seasons. Three fertilizer treatments were compared, including general recommendation, recommendation according to its soil analysis, and farmer practices. Average results showed that fertilizer application according to its soil analysis gave the highest rice grain yield of 525 kg/rai followed by recommended fertilizer treatment and farmer's practice treatment, with average yields of 507 and 426 kg/rai respectively. Furthermore, general recommendation and recommendation according to its soil analysis increased the current level of rice grain yield approximately 18-23 percent. |
