Abstract: Pre-germinated seed broad casting with high seed rate was a major practicing in flooded rice production system. It caused high plant density and was suitable micro-climate for outbreak of disease and insect pest. Farmer had to invest higher cost to spray more chemical to protect their crop. Experimental design was On-farm trial with four replications. There were three treatments of the seed rates of 15, 20 and 25 kg rai-1. Data to be collected comprised of stem number, leaf number, the damage of disease and insect pest at seedling stage, tillering stage, and harvesting stage. Rice yield was also collected. The research conducted in two farmers’ field located at Beung Sarn sub-district, Aongkarak district, Nakorn Nayok Province in 2010. The research found that in Mr. Wichian Bouban’s plot, there were 11.9 stems and 7.8 panicles within the sampling area of 10x10 centimeter for the seed rate of 25 kg rai-1 at harvesting stage. While Mr. Prateep Promhorm’s plot, there were 9.8 stems and 8.5 panicles. Damage observation of the disease and insect pest in Mr. Wichain’s plot at the area of 10x10 centimeter for 10 samples per plot indicated that there was brown spot disease at tillering stage for seed rate of 25 kg rai-1. There were total of 70 leaves infected, which was higher than 5 and 10 leaves infected under 15 and 20 kg rai-1 of seed rate, respectively. The research found 67 damaged by leaf rollers in high seed rate of 25 kg rai-1. It was higher than 7 and 9 damaged leaves for seed rate of 15 and 20 kg rai-1, respectively in Mr. Prateep plot. At harvesting stage, the seed rate of 25 kg rai-1 was damaged by Leaf roller and Brown plant hopper higher rate than lower seed rate in both plots. Rice yield under seed rate of 15, 20 and 25 kg rai-1 were 860, 800 and 754 kg rai-1 in both plot.
