Anatomical and histological characterization of placenta in feas barking deer (Muntiacus feai)

Abstract

Placenta was recovered post morterm from a feas barking deer, Muntiacus feai, for anatomical and histological study. Macroscopically, there were eight placentomes, elliptical cup-liked in shape, with average dimensions of 3.12, 1.85 and 2.28 cm in length, width, and thickness respectively. The cross sectioned surface had a radiant appearance of interdigitating structures. The uterine caruncle and fetal cotyledon were convex and concave, respectively. Microscopically, chorionic villi were in contact with the maternal crypt by mean of interdigitating, where six tissue layers (3 layers from each side), were established. Trophoblastic binucleated cells which are characteristic of all other ruminants were observed. This results suggest that the placenta of feas barking deer was described as synepitheliochorial placenta. However, it was different in shape, number and distribution of villi from other ruminant placentomes.

ศึกษาลักษณะทางมหกายวิภาค และจุลกายวิภาคของรกในเก้งหม้อ พบลักษณะ placentome รูปร่างยาวรี ผนังด้านนอกเรียบขนาดแตกต่างกัน โดยมีความยาว ความกว้าง และความหนาโดยเฉลี่ยเท่ากับ 3.12, 1.85 และ 2.28 เซนติเมตรตามลำดับ เมื่อตัด placentome ตามขวางพบว่าพื้นผิวภายในขรุขระ ลักษณะเป็นเส้นแผ่ออกมาจากฐานของผนังมดลูก โดย caruncle มีลักษณะนูนขึ้น และ cotyledon มีลักษณะเว้าลง ขณะที่ลักษณะทางจุลกายวิภาคประกอบด้วย เนื้อเยื่อรกฝั่งลูก และเนื้อเยื่อทางฝั่งแม่มีการประสานกันคล้ายนิ้วมือ ประกอบด้วยโครงสร้างของเนื้อเยื่อทั้งหมด 6 ชั้น รวมถึงพบ trophoblast ชนิด 2 นิวเคลียส ซึ่งเป็นลักษณะเฉพาะของรกในสัตว์เคี้ยวเอื้อง จากผลที่ได้ในครั้งนี้สามารถจัดรกในเก้งหม้อเป็นชนิด synepitheliochorial placenta ได้เช่นเดียวกับรกของสัตว์เคี้ยวเอื้องทั่วไป แต่มีความแตกต่างกันในด้านของขนาด จำนวน รูปร่าง และการแตกแขนงของ villus
