Antimicrobial-resistant patterns of Salmonella in Thai rural-chicken and farmed-broilers

Abstract

Salmonella surveillance from cloacal swab samples of Thai chicken in 2000 and 2002 found prevalence in native-chicken owned by small-scale farmers in the rural area were 8.9 percent (50/563 samples) และ 0.97 percent (4/414 samples), respectively, while those in intensive farmed-broilers were 5.3 percent (87/1,645 samples) and 5 percent (23/456samples), respectively. The majority of serovars found in native-chicken were S. Orion and S. Enteritidis, while in farmed-broilers were S. Virchow and S. Enteritidis. The percentages of antimicrobial resistant Salmonella isolated from farmed-broilers were higher than native-chicken which might reflect the over-use of antimicrobials in intensive farming system. The changes of antimicrobial resistant patterns of Salmonella isolated in 2000 and 2002 were found declining of tetracycline, furazolidone, and sulfamethoxazole+trimethoprim from 29.4 to 17.4 percent, 49.7 to 17.4 percent, and 12.8 to 0 percent, respectively. However, resistances of nalidixic acid was increased from 59.2 to 78.3 percent and ciprofloxacin from 0 to 8.7 percent. This evidence indicated that prudent use of antimicrobials should be concerned for containing the selective-pressure of fluoroquinolones-resistant Salmonella spp.

การเฝ้าระวังเชื้อซัลโมเนลล่าในปี พ.ศ. 2543 และ 2545 พบความชุกจากตัวอย่างอุจจาระไก่พื้นเมืองของเกษตรกรรายย่อยที่เลี้ยงปล่อยในชนบท (ไก่บ้าน) 8.9 เปอร์เซ็นต์ (50/563 ตัวอย่าง) และ 0.97 เปอร์เซ็นต์ (4/414 ตัวอย่าง) ตามลำดับ ส่วนตัวอย่างอุจจาระไก่เนื้อที่เลี้ยงในระบบฟาร์มอุตสาหกรรม (ไก่ฟาร์ม) พบ 5.3 เปอร์เซ็นต์ (87/1,645 ตัวอย่าง) และ 5 เปอร์เซ็นต์ (23/456 ตัวอย่าง) ตามลำดับ โดยซีโรวาร์ที่พบมากในไก่บ้านคือ S. Orion และ S. Enteritidis ส่วนในไก่ฟาร์มคือ S. Virchow และ S. Enteritidis นอกจากนี้พบว่ารูปแบบการดื้อต่อยาต้านจุลชีพของเชื้อซัลโมเนลล่าในไก่ฟาร์มสูงกว่าในไก่บ้านมากซึ่งอาจเนื่องมาจากมีการใช้ยาต้านจุลชีพในไก่ฟาร์มมากกว่าในไก่บ้าน ทั้งนี้รูปแบบการดื้อต่อยาที่ทดสอบของเชื้อซัลโมเนลล่าจากไก่ฟาร์มในปี พ.ศ. 2543 และ 2545 พบว่าส่วนใหญ่ไม่มีความแตกต่างกัน ยกเว้นอัตราการดื้อยาลดลงต่อเตตร้าซัยคลิน (จาก 29.4 เป็น 17.4 เปอร์เซ็นต์) ฟูราโซลิโดน (จาก 49.7 เป็น 17.4 เปอร์เซ็นต์) และซัลฟาเม็ทท๊อกซาโซล+ทรัยเม็ทโทปริม (จาก 12.8 เป็น 0 เปอร์เซ็นต์) แต่อัตราการดื้อยาเพิ่มขึ้นต่อนาลิดิซิก แอซิด (จาก 59.2 เป็น 78.3 เปอร์เซ็นต์) และซิโปรฟล็อกซาซิน (จาก 0 เป็น 8.7 เปอร์เซ็นต์) ซึ่งเป็นสัญญาณเตือนให้ผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องตระหนักในเรื่องการใช้ยาต้านจุลชีพอย่างรอบคอบและเหมาะสมเพื่อป้องกันหรือชะลอปัญหาเชื้อดื้อต่อยากลุ่มฟลูโอโรควิโนโลนส์
