| Abstract: | RD45 (Hom Prachin Buri) rice variety was bred between PCRBR83012-267-5 line (Hom Nai Pon X IR46) and Khoaw Dawk Mali 105 at Prachin Buri Rice Research Center in 1989. F1 was planted in 1990 and F2 to F5 were planted during 1991 to 1994. After that yield trials and testing of resistant to diseases and insect pests were conducted. In addition assessment of farmer adoption was done in a hundred farmer fields under the project of efficiency improvement on rice production and rice seed distribution. It was registered to be recommended rice variety on September 28, 2010. RD45 was non-glutinous rice. It was photo sensitive rice variety with range of flowering date from October 25 to November 2. Recommended area was deepwater rice field with less than 100 cm of water depth. Plant height was 170 cm. Plant type was compact tillers with elect leaf, moderate stem, green leaf, and elect flag leaf. The panicle was 27.7 cm long. Rough rice was brown color with the dimensions of 10.2, 2.73, and 2.09 mm for length, width, and thickness, respectively. Brown rice dimensions were 7.44, 2.33, and 1.83 mm for length, width, and thickness. Milling quality was very good with less chockiness. It could be 100% grade of milled rice. Amylose content was low (16.5%) with low temperature of gellabialization. Gel consistency was 80 mm. Elongation rate of cooked rice was 1.67. The significant property was aromatic with soft and sticky cooked rice like KDML105. The average yield was 520 kg rai-1. Seed dormancy was 9 weeks. RD45 was adopted by 92% of the farmers who cooperated with the “Efficiency improvement on rice production and rice seed distribution project” They said that RD45 was a good variety in term of cooking quality, plant type and yield. Moreover, RD45 was distributed and grown in the area of 2,600 rai of Prachinburi and nearby provinces. The yield under this production area was milled for local market. |
