Abstract: Impact of recommended insecticides on natural enemies in irrigated rice ecosystem was studied in the farmer’s paddy field at Nakhonluang distric in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province during dry and wet season of 2009 and 2010. Each rice plot was applied with dinotefuran, thiamethoxam, bensultap, clothianidin, ethiprole, bio-extract, Beauveria brassiana and water (control). The insecticides were applied at 45, 60 and 75 days after broadcasting. Insects sampling were conducted in experimental plots before and after treatments. In each plot 20 random samplings of natural enemies were conducted on rice plants by visual count in the diagonal direction. Apart from the vistual count, the insects were also collected from each experimental plot by using the D-vac sucking machine on 5 units of 1x1 m2 each. The decline in the population of natural enemies results from the application of different insecticides were evaluated and compared. The insect diversity index in the insecticide and non insecticide applications were also compared. The results showed that ethiprole, clothianidin, dinotefuran and thiamethoxam were mostly harmless to moderately harmful to the spiders, mirid bug (Cyrtorhinus lividipennis (Reuter)), predators, egg parasites of leafhopper and planthopper and larval parasites of rice leaffolder. Diversity index of natural enemies in wet season was higher than dry season. Ethiprole and bensultap plots had diversity index of natural enemies decreasing compared to control vat 6.71-27.59 and 1.34-16.55%, respectively. While the controlling of the brown planthopper, dinotefuran and ethiprole gave higher efficacy than other insecticides.
