Abstract

RD45 (Hawm Prachin Buri) rice variety had been bred between PCRBR83012-267-5 line (Hawm Nai Pon X IR46) and Khoa Dawk Mali 105 at Prachin Buri Rice Research Center in 1989. F1 had been planted in 1990 and F2 to F5 had been selected during 1991 to 1994. After that, yield trials and testing of disease and insect resistance were conducted. In addition, farmer adoption had been assessed in hundred farmer fields under the project of improvement on rice production efficiency and rice seed distribution. RD45 had been certified and released as a recommended rice variety on September 28th, 2010. RD45 is non-glutinous and photoperiod sensitive deepwater rice variety. Its flowering date is in the range of October 25th to November 2nd. It is recommended for deepwater rice field where water depth is less than 100 cm. RD45 has 170 cm plant height with compact tillers, moderate culm strength and 27.7 cm panicle length. Its leaf blades and flag leaves are erect and green color. Rough rice of RD45 has straw color with the dimension of 10.2, 2.73, and 2.09 mm for length, width, and thickness, respectively. Its brown rice is shape slender with dimension of 7.44, 2.33, and 1.83 mm for length, width, and thickness. Milling quality of RD45 is very good with transparent grains and less chalkiness, so it could be milled as 100% white rice. Amylose content of RD45 is low (16.5%) with low gelatinization temperature. Its gel consistency is 80 mm with 1.67 elongation ratio of cooked rice. The distinct property of RD45 is aromatic, soft and sticky cooked rice as good as KDML105. This variety has 520 kg rai-1 and 9 weeks seed dormacy. This variety also had been adopted by 92% of the farmers who cooporated with the “Improvement on rice
