| Abstract: | Characterization and germplasm evaluation are essential for utilization of rice genetic diversity. Research project on characterization and evaluation of rice genetic resources was conducted at rice research centers during 2008-2010 including morphological evaluation of ca. 3,600 accessions; physical and chemical grain quality analysis of 2,384 accessions; test for resistance to rice blast of ca. 5,000 accessions, bacterial leaf blight and ragged stunt virus of 641 accessions each; evaluation for drought and salinity tolerance of 665 and 955 accessions, respectively. Some rice accessions showed particular traits that might be useful for further utilization such as early- and late- flowering, high panicle number, lengthy panicle, small and large grain, high amylose content, colored brown rice, disease and insect resistance, drought and salinity tolerance. |
