Abstract: Bue Po Lo, highland paddy rice variety which Karen ethnic groups using widely planted and its emphasis on Highland food security in Mae Hong Son. In 2008, Bue Po Lo samples were surveyed and collected in Mae Hong Son province from the high sea level between 505-1,303 meters source plant. Bue Po Lo is a traditional rice growing for a long time from past to present and maintained by an ancestor. Inheritance and tradition for many generations people together. Bue Po Lo is known from the look and large round seeds, divide into three types by calling the nature of the grain were large, medium and small. They grow single plant species or two or the whole of all kinds. In addition to planting in upland condition, we found that some of “Score” Karen ethnic groups plant in field conditions. By another name called Bue Pong long. The advantages are higher yield when grown on highland where is cold, strong culm, large panicle and grain, medium, easy threshing, soft hot and cold cooked rice cooking quality, delicious, fluffy, relatively resistant to disease and insects better than other varieties and planted in every landscape. But some areas have problems to blast, gall midge, white planthopper, stem borer and lodging easily, high plant in abundance area. Farmers will be selected rice varieties when mixed or other red rice and cultivated to 4-5 years. They conserve and inherit rice from generation to generation. Some of them located in the village of high sea level up to 700 meters, Bue Po Lo was grown less because they can grow rice RD 21 which is high-yielding rice and some village grow RD21 all. In 2053, there were flowering date during September 16 to October 13, between 94-200 centimeter height, 7-17 panicles per hill and yield differences. Bue Po Lo Mae Na Jang variety is over to yield 845 kilograms per rai. Not significantly different from 50 species, followed by a yield between 650-831 kilograms per rai. But different from 42 varieties (315- 644 kilograms per rai. In 2010 was Po Lo Bue with flowering date between October 17 to 26, 153-146 centimeter height, 8-15 panicles per hill and yield differences. Bue Po Lo Mae La variety was maximum yield of 741 kilograms per rai. Not significantly different statistically. From yielding varieties, followed by 26 species of which yield between 591-715 kilograms per rai. But the difference is statistically significant with other of 66 varieties (144-581 kilograms per rai). In Cooking Quality, Beu Po Lo with low amylose content (soft cooked rice) was 83 varieties, medium amylose content (quite brittle cooked rice) was 83 varieties and found that sticky, soft and aromatic cooked rice are Bue Po Lo Huay Ma Buab 1, Bue Po Lo Huay Ma Buab 2, Bue Po Lo Ma Hin Luang and Bue Po Lo Mae La Ka 4.
